It's Time for Thyme!
It's Time for Thyme.
Hello, Butta Lovers and Connoisseurs of all things Natural!
Let's take the time to talk about thyme!
Thyme is very interesting because this plant has been around since Ancient Egypt and Greek time, over 4000 years ago! It's used in medicine and for cooking. There is a local natural pharmacist in my hometown of Memphis I visit often for my essential oils and thyme has a unique strong odor. When you walk into his pharmacy, the smell of thyme hits you in the face. It's just that potent! The pharmacist uses it in several cough syrups and ointments. He has a lot of knowledge in old school natural remedies. I just love it!
I have some Thyme oil stored away because of its medicinal properties, as the pharmacist told me, thyme is good for respiratory issues, strengthens the immune system, and relieves menstrual cramps. Intrigued, I continued my research and found thyme was also great if used as a topical ointment to relieve minor skin discomforts such as itching, inflammations, and irritations. (Note: You would need to mix the thyme oil with a hard body butter or carrier oil. Do not put thyme oil directly on the skin because it's potency may cause skin irritation.)
Now, I am very big on natural remedies and love researching different recipes and concoctions, of course, so if I'm sick or something minor, I take the natural route. I mean nature is here and it has so much to offer, we just have to go out and find it! Over time, I have found myself using thyme more than a few times throughout of the year.
A couple of The Butta Guru's Favorite uses for Thyme:
Thyme and Chamomile Tea. Fresh thyme leaves and chamomile tea with a little lemon and honey can do wonders for those minor aches and pains that may cause discomfort while you are trying to sleep. Thyme relieves stomach queasiness, and nausea, and is also great for congested coughs because thyme is an expectorant.
For congested cough Thyme Towel: If you are having trouble sleeping because of a stuffy nose or cough, you could drop a few drops (2-4 drops) of thyme essential oil unto a small towel or rag and place it close to where you are sleeping.
(Note: Careful where you drop the oil because you don't want to stain your pillows, cover, etc. Also, thyme has a very strong odor, it smells like a strong medicinal licorice.)
